ICT - ENABLE - SUSTAINABILITY - IN 'SMART' CITIES L'appel de Malte - Futures Cities
3 rd March 2010, Malta
INVITATION The CIP Malta National Contact Point within Malta Investment Management Ltd. is organising the international seminar “ICT-enabled sustainability in smart cities” in collaboration with Malta-EU Steering & Action Committee. The event will take place at Le Meridien Hotel, St Julians, Malta on 3rd March 2010. This information and networking event will be opened by the Hon. Minister Dr. Austin Gatt, Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Communications and addressed by the Hon. Dr Chris Said, Parliamentary Secretary for Public Dialogue and Information as well as other high calibre speakers, including officials from the DG Information Society within the European Commission. You may download the full draft programme for your perusal further below. Malta, like the entire Europe, is facing today the need to speed-up economic growth through higher productivity, innovativeness and competitiveness, but in a manner that ensures a sustainable and rational use of resources. ICT has now become one of the main infrastructures and an obvious enabler for the achievement of long-term sustainability, within “smarter” societies. Malta’s size and geographical location, its highly developed ICT infrastructure and commitment to sustainable growth, makes it a great “test-bed” for new ICT solutions and infrastructure paradigms, and thus a “catalyst” for their expansion and development into the Euro-Mediterranean region. In this context, the aim of this event is to provide information on the specific funding opportunities existing under the 2010 ICT Policy Support Programme’s Theme 1 ‘ICT for a Low Carbon Economy and Smart Mobility’ and Theme 4 ‘Open Innovation for Future Internet-enabled services in “smart” cities’. You may download the full work programme and the information extracts of these two themes further below. The event will also serve as a meeting place for representatives of public administration, academia, business and civil society from all CIP member states, giving them the occasion to establish direct communication channels and set the base for joint projects and further collaborations. To this end, the event will be structured so as to allow for two parallel networking sessions, each focused on one of the above mentioned themes. During these break-our sessions, the participants will be able to briefly present their pilot proposal idea for which they seek partners or their organisation’s competences. If potentially interested organizations would be unable to be represented in person at the event, they may send their partner search profile for further distribution at the event. Guidelines and requirements for such presentations are included in the attached draft programme.
